The management of the Alhama Signature Golf Course have issued the following update:
Dear members,
Once again I am writing to inform you about the latest developments at Alhama Signature Golf in the last few weeks.
Firstly, I will detail the actions that have been carried out during these months with regard to maintenance, the period of active growth of the grass and therefore the critical period of action for the improvement of the golf course:
– Application of 20 tons of fertiliser on the entire playing surface. Intensive weekly fertilisation in localised areas of fairways and rough.
– Application of treatment against caterpillar pests on the entire playing surface including bunker hillocks.
– Application of wetting agent (treatment to maintain the moisture of the turf substrate by reducing water consumption and improving salt mobility).
– Fumigation of the lakes and playing areas against mosquitoes every 15 days as required by environmental regulations using “Bacillus thuringiensis” for biological control of the larvae.
– Replacement of the main irrigation computer of the golf course.
– Spiking of greens, spicker in fairway and rough up to eight times in critical areas to favour recovery.
– Installation of an automatic stainless steel pre-filter in the suction of the pumping system to prevent blockages that had been occurring continuously.
– Installation of protective shade for machinery in the maintenance area.
– The controlled live capture of rabbits continues on the entire surface of the golf course.
– The interconnection between lakes 4 and 5, which was not working, has been rehabilitated.- Three types of fish have been installed in the lakes to eradicate mosquito larvae and other insects and to kill algae, following a pilot experiment in lake 13.
– Repair of broken diffusers and sprinklers.
– Drawing up a project to extend the grass area to recover part of the old fescue area.
With regard to night-time control statistics, the problem of unwanted night-time visits by young people who used the golf course as a party and drinking area has been practically eradicated. We would like to thank our members, clients and neighbours for the fundamental role they have played in this respect, for their collaboration in reporting and warning of these incursions.
On the other hand, I would like to detail the actions that are going to be carried out during the next autumn and winter months:
– Conditioning and improvement of the bunkers over the next few months until approximately February.
– Repositioning of the perimeter fence and planting of deterrent plants.
– Improvement of lakes, cleaning of reeds and fumigation of lakes.
– Repair of clogged drains.
– Micro spiking of greens and tees.
– Machinery maintenance programme during the winter, overhaul of filters, oil, paint, etc.
– Removal of thatch (organic matter) from fairways and rough accumulated over more than 10 years.
– Pruning and clearing of trees next to the Penthouses area.
With regard to the areas next to the bunkers, a project has been drawn up to extend the grass area to recover part of the old “Festuca” area, which will prevent the dreaded runoffs that occur every time is heavy rainfall on Condado de Alhama, seeking to recover the original Jack Nicklaus design. The planting of these areas will take place next June.
This project also contemplates the arrangement of natural areas, mainly next to the tees, with ecological soil stabilising substances in order to stabilise the sands that make up the natural area and also to prevent run-offs.
On the 1st of October, new management of the bar/restaurant business will take over. Both the golf course ownership and management would like to thank Byron and Denise for their work at the Alhama Signature Golf Restaurant over the years and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
On the subject of events taking place over the next few weeks I have listed the upcoming tournaments for you to sign up for:

Finally I would like to thank all the members, customers and the CDA Golf society for the support shown from the first day to the project that began on January 4th 2023, without them, the improvement of the golf course and the Club would have been unfeasible. Our most sincere gratitude. We will continue to work on all the aspects that still need to be improved.
As always, you have my e-mail address for any information or suggestions you may have.
Finally, we would like to wish you all the best from all the Alhama Signature golf team.
