Minutes of meeting between CDAGS and ASG 23rd May 2023.
The CDAGS committee discussion with Lola regarding various concerns raised by it’s members was a frank and constructive meeting which is summarised below.
Membership cost.
Concern raised of cost of membership given the condition of the golf course and that we now only have a 1 course option. Lola agreed to discuss a reduction of the daily €9 fee. Update: The society rate has gone down to €35 and the members rate has gone down to €5 until course such time the course improves.
Maintenance of the course.
Main concern was the condition of the fairways and lack of progress in improvements.
Lola advised growth of the fairway grass is governed by temperatures, there has been seeding, feeding and watering however cold night weather has restricted growth.
There is a plan to use external contractors to carry out Micro-pinning of the fairways and greens, the start date will be determined by weather conditions. Update: funds are now in place to commence this work so we should see this being actioned as soon as conditions allow.
Additional equipment is on order but this is specialised equipment built on demand or pre-used in limited supply, this will speed up maintenance once it is in place.
Closure of parts of the golf course will not be required, GUR marking of area’s will be used if necessary.
Water is available from 3 separate sources but purchased on demand, the irrigation system is now fully operational.
Greens.
The greens still contain two variants of grass, this can cause uneven surfaces but they are undergoing treatment and cutting on a regular basis to encourage growth of the Paspalum grass.
Tee placements.
The new Black tee’s have been introduced and others redistributed with the yellow tee’s moved forward mainly on the par 3’s, the Spanish federation have reassessed the course for new strike index and course rating, this is expected to be issued within the next two weeks. Update: New slope rating has been supplied by the Federation, this will be adopted by the society as soon as Score cards with hole index have been supplied.
New score cards including company logo, local rules etc are ready to be printed as soon as the information is supplied by the Federation.
Out of Bounds stake placements.
Concern over the current placements of stakes being ineffective in determining OOB.
Lola advised now that the course boundary has been established with the roped stakes this would be introduced as the course OOB.
Red hazards.
General concern and confusion regarding playing from the exposed lake linings, now agreed that the ASG local ruling will be that playing from inside the red hazard area will not be allowed, this will be in the ASG course local rules.
The society will also reinforce this by introducing a local society rule. In progress, ASG will provide a draft for our information and comments.
Bunker GUR.
Bunkers will remain GUR but are undergoing repairs, we will be informed weekly of progress.
